I have been making bobbin lace (Bucks and Honiton) since 1971. I have been a member of the Lace Guild since it was founded in 1976 and also a member of the Lace Society, the Lace Circle and Sheffield Lacemakers. I have given talks and demonstrated on the subject. I am interested in the practical skills, the technical aspects, the identification and the history of lace. My MA degree was awarded by the University of Sheffield for a historical study of lacemaking in a Northamptonshire village, (my dissertation is not a published document). I am interested in discovering more about the extent of lacemaking in England, outside the main lacemaking counties (Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Devon and Wiltshire). I would therefore welcome any information, which might arise, as a result of family genealogy searches, about lacemakers living outside these five counties. email: sgg@freeola.com all communications will be acknowledged |
